Books National Citywide Convention!

Mobile, AL, January 28 - The Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau announced today that the National Beta Club has chosen Mobile, AL to host their 2013 National Convention. Mobile, AL beat out Richmond, VA in order to host this highly attended convention. The National Beta Club National Convention will bring over 5,000 attendees to our city and will result in approximately 5,675 room nights that will be spread out amongst the many hotels in our area. It is estimated to generate nearly $4,000,000 in direct spending for the city. This convention will take place in June, 2013 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center. Leon Maisel, President/CEO of the Mobile Bay CVB states, “The booking of this convention is a tremendous success for the city. Bringing in a convention of this size and stature will positively affect our area across the board. Hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. will all benefit from this nationally attended convention.”
The National Beta Club is the nation's largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. They are committed to recognizing and promoting high academic achievement, encouraging service to others, and developing character and leadership skills. Since its beginnings in 1934, The National Beta Club has worked with over five and a half million young people in grades 5-9 (Junior Beta Club) and grades 9-12 (Senior Beta Club). There are now more than 418,000 active members and more than 8,000 clubs in 42 states, District of Columbia, three U.S. territories and four foreign countries.
The National Beta Club sponsors thirty-four state level conventions throughout the year. The National Convention is held each June to showcase the winners of these state competitions. The goal is to provide an experience that is educational, recreational, and most importantly provides a venue where students of all socio-economic means come together in a spirit that encourages better understanding of the diverse nature of our nation. The National Beta Club prides themselves in holding their National Convention in exciting locations giving members the chance to see areas which they might not ordinarily have the opportunity to see. National Conventions have been held in locations such as Orlando, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Nashville, Tennessee. Mobile, Alabama is proud to be added to this exclusive list and is looking forward to hosting these inspiring students.
