Meet Oliver Dorgan
What year did you begin working at Visit Mobile? 2019
What makes working at Visit Mobile special?
Working for Visit Mobile is really enjoyable. I love a challenge, and there is something challenging about working in destination marketing. We gauge our success by how much impact we have on businesses outside our own. We promote what we don’t own, and we have limited control over what we sell. But through our relationships within our community, we can advocate for infrastructure, lift voices within the city, and build nuanced experiences that visitors can immerse themselves in. My motivation is rooted in my passion for Mobile and its fascinating history. No cities in the United States have the same vibe as Mobile, and I love that we get to share our city with others.
Fun fact about me:
I am an alum of Spring Hill College in Mobile. I love downhill skiing and riding my motorcycle. I come from a family of competitive sailors, one of whom went to the Olympic trials. My wife and I have two miniature Australian Shepherds that we are training for agility courses. I love building things and am an amateur woodworker. I have lived in Mobile for most of my life making me a true Mobilian. I love all things art, from graphic design to painting to sculpture. I can’t play an instrument, but I love music. And nothing can beat taking a trip to Dauphin Island with your dogs and enjoying a day at the beach with a girlie boat drink in your hand.
What do you consider a "can't miss" Mobile experience?
Mardi Gras in Mobile, or as it is lovingly referred to as “the Boom Boom,” has to be one of the most exciting and unique things to experience in Mobile. The history is ever present in the traditions of the organizations, lending borrowed nostalgia to this experience. The Mobile Bay delta offers a glimpse of a place untouched by time, where giant cyprus climb out of mud banks, providing a haven for great blue herons and white pelicans. This place is a magical remedy for those seeking to sever ties from the hustle and bustle of the modern-day so they can find introspection through the beauty in nature.
What is your favorite Mobile restaurant?
Currently Red or White is my favorite. Try the brisket board if your looking for an experience.
