POSITION:  National Sales Manager

SUPPORTED BY: Vice President of Leisure Tourism & Convention Sales 


The National Sales Manager is responsible for achieving leads, room nights, and prospecting goals set forth by Visit Mobile. The salesperson is compensated with a base salary plus an incentive bonus, based on achieving his/her goals.  The salesperson is expected to solicit convention groups and organizations to pursue future business for the city of Mobile through various initiatives; including but not limited to direct telephone solicitation, e-mails, personal sales calls, bid presentations, trade shows, and proposals. Extensive business travel, weekend duty and flexible hours are required.   



  • Generates qualified leads for area hotels and meeting facilities with the objective of booking room nights within his/her assigned market segments
  • Creates and manages assigned accounts through the hospitality database system, responsible for entering and maintaining proper information to generate prospects, leads, and definite room nights  
  • Coordinates and conducts out-of-market sales meetings and personal sales calls to pursue convention business.  These calls may include state, regional, national, or international destinations
  • Participates in out-of-market city blitzes and in-market familiarization trips. Each member will also help coordinate these events and provide a qualified number of clients from their assigned market segments
  • Conducts client site inspections with hospitality partners. The salesperson will be responsible for setting the agenda and coordinating the visit along with the transportation (the sales support staff may assist in arrangements as directed by the salesperson)
  • Performs bid presentations as needed to secure convention business.  The sales support staff and marketing staff may assist in this effort as needed by the salesperson.
  • Attends trade shows to be determined by the assigned markets to promote Mobile at selected industry conferences.  Responsible for memberships, registrations, hotel accommodations, appointments, tradeshow logistics, and transportation to the required trade shows
  • Responsible for timely and accurate trip/trade show reports, site inspection reports, credit card/cash expense reports, vacation requests, and other accountabilities. All requests and reports will be sent directly to the Vice President of Sales for approval
  • Experience with data input and research in Simpleview, MINT, Knowland, Gale, Cvent, Word, Outlook, Excel preferred
  • Ability to carry out all job requirements and to represent Visit Mobile professionally as a liaison within the hospitality community without close supervision
  • The National Sales Manager also assumes other Visit Mobile tasks or responsibilities as directed or assigned by the Vice President of Convention Sales or senior management



  • Minimum of five years experience in a Destination Marketing Organization, Tourism, Hotel Group Sales, or travel related industry. Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Business Administration, or Economics 
  • Strong communication, written, data research, and computer skills required
  • Experience with digital and in-person presentations and meetings with clients, hospitality partners, city officials, media, and co-workers is essential

Visitation Information Specialist

POSITION:                   Part-Time Visitor Information Specialist

SUPPORTED BY:         Vice President of Leisure Tourism                                     



The Visitor Information Specialist is responsible for assisting visitors, answering questions about the city and regional areas of interest, and providing directions as needed. The goal is to enhance the visitor’s stay resulting in an exceptional experience, increasing the likelihood that they will stay longer, recommend Mobile to others, and return for future visits. This position serves as direct liaison with our local hospitality community and represents the City of Mobile and State of Alabama.



  • Dress in Visit Mobile logo tops and/or wear name badges at all times as provided by Visit Mobile
  • Confirm your ability to work the scheduled events within 3 days of being contacted by the designated Visit Mobile staff member.  (usually the Destination & Experience Tour Manager)
  • Contact the designated Visit Mobile staff member if you are unable to work your scheduled shift in a timely manner (one week prior for non-emergency situations)
  • Arrive at the venue on time. Call the designated contact at Visit Mobile if you are going to be late
  • When working registration during conventions, report directly to the Meeting Planner
  • When working registration at the Tennis Center report directly to the VIS in charge or Tennis Center Staff
  • When working any other events report to the appropriate event leader
  • Keep the booth and/or registration table neat and attractive.  Re-stock as needed
  • When working as a team, rotate breaks and lunch hours to keep the booth staffed
  • For an 8-hour day, if permitting, you are allowed two 15-minute breaks and a one-hour lunch period (check with event planner)
  • Direct any concerns to the Director of VP of Leisure Tourism



  • Intermediate knowledge of places of interest, activities, special events, transportation, dining and lodging in Mobile and the surrounding area
  • Basic computer skills with email and internet search skills a must
  • Ability to navigate the Visit Mobile website and to direct guests to the website as needed
  • Ability to direct guests to the Visit Mobile social media platforms as needed
  • Proactively carry out job requirements without direct supervision
  • Effective communication and customer service skills both in-person and on the telephone
  • Ability and commitment to work with a diverse group of individuals
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor, treating all visitors and staff with respect and courtesy, handling negative situations with tack and diplomacy
  • Ability to interact with people in a high energy, fast-paced, busy environment



This position may require the need to be exposed to moderate to high levels of noise, temperature fluctuations dependent on outdoor weather, and high levels of contact with the general public. Continuously required to hear and respond to verbal cues, and to see and respond to visual cues. Each shift requires a mix of light bending, walking, standing, and sitting, as well ability to lift 30 lbs   



  • College Degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the hospitality industry
