Scavenger Hunt. Two words that immediately take you back to your youth. Seriously, who doesn't love a good scavenger hunt? We love them almost as much as we love oysters. Thankfully, the Mobile Bay Oyster Gardening Program does too. So, the Oyster Trail began.
To many in Mobile and coastal communities, the oyster is a seafood favorite. A project of the Mobile Bay Oyster Gardening Program, The Oyster Trail is a fun, educational and public art trail throughout coastal Alabama. When you’re in Mobile, look for the large fiberglass oysters (you can’t miss them) that have been painted by artists throughout the area. You’ll find them on street corners, in parks, in lobbies, and many other public spaces – there are now sixteen of them!
Each oyster has a fact plaque that includes important information about the oyster’s ecological and economic benefit to Mobile Bay. Try to visit all of them and post your pictures to The Oyster Trail on Facebook. We’ll watch for them and then send you a prize for following the trail.
We've given you the Oyster Trail map, now here's a sneak peak of two of the oysters you'll be searching for throughout Downtown Mobile!
Happy hunting!
