Mobile, AL History Itinerary
As the oldest city in Alabama, Mobile has a rich history spanning centuries. French, Spanish, British, Creole, Catholic, Greek and African legacies have influenced everything from architecture to cuisine, creating a melting pot in the Port City.
DAY ONE
CHECK-IN
Welcome to Mobile, the oldest city in Alabama! Unpack your bags and get ready to explore our rich past that spans centuries. The Battle House Renaissance Hotel, a top historic hotel in America, will be your home away from home.
SOUTHERN CHARM
It’s no secret that Mobile is home to some of the most beautiful homes in the South. Find out for yourself by visiting one (or all) of our charming downtown and midtown historic districts. You’ll experience the true heart and soul of Mobile. Prefer things a little more structured? Take a guided tour of one of the many historic antebellum homes in Mobile.
DINNER TIME
A historic Dauphin Street landmark for over 85 years, you can get your oysters “fried, stewed or nude" at Wintzell’s Oyster House. Fresh gulf seafood and their famous gumbo is the perfect way to start your stay! Located in one of Mobile’s historic districts, Callaghan’s Irish Social Club has been open since 1946. Recognized as the Best Burger in Alabama by USA Today, trust us—you’ll need to ask for extra napkins for this meal!
“WINE” DOWN
Relax, recharge and enjoy a glass of wine and delectable dishes at Red or White Wine located in Midtown and home to James Beard Award nominee, Chef Arwen Rice.
DAY 2
WALK THROUGH HISTORY
No matter where you turn, history is right around the corner. Brush up on your trivia at the History Museum of Mobile, explore the battlegrounds of Colonial Fort Condé or walk the streets of our historic downtown on a guided tour.
DINNER
Most people claim “farm-to-table” — we claim “boat-to-table” and fresh, Gulf seafood is our specialty. Choose from a variety of options across the city!
CHEERS TO MOBILE
We have over 300 years of experience hosting guests like yourself in our city — we have the party thing down-pat! Stroll the historic LoDa (Lower Dauphin) District and explore the many nightlife options to enjoy a nightcap and raise a glass to Mobile!
DAY 3
TASTE OF THE PAST
A Mobile tradition since 1924, the Dew Drop Inn is Mobile’s oldest restaurant. You will not regret stopping by for a Dew Drop dog or chili burger.
TOURS GALORE
Historic architectural tours, African American heritage trails, graveyard tours, Secret History Tours and everything in between, it's a great way to learn about Mobile’s rich history! Whether by foot, bike, van or trolley, we've got your sightseeing options covered.
AN OLD MOBILE EVENING
Taste your way through Mobile’s history with a Bienville Bites Food Tour. During your three hour experience, you will explore the food history of Mobile. Each of your stops will offer a different, unique dining experience.
