Explore Mobile's Maritime History

As one of the oldest cities on the Gulf Coast, Mobile has left its stamp on maritime history and culture. With this three-day itinerary, explore the various stories, moments and legacies that have shaped our Port City.

Day One: Let's Get Acquainted

3 PM | It’s Time to Check In!
Mobile is your home for the next two days, so you might as well make yourself comfortable! Choose one of the 74 hotels in Mobile for your stay.

5 PM | Wine and Dine at Wintzell’s Oyster House
Since you’re here for the maritime vibes, indulge in seafood from one of Mobile’s oldest restaurants. Wintzell’s has been slinging 'fried, stewed or nude' oysters for nearly 100 years. If oysters aren’t your forte, the West Indies salad, seafood gumbo, low-country boil and other menu items aim to please.

7 PM | Venture Around Downtown
Cheers to the weekend! Mobile is home to many events, experiences and nightlife options that serve as the perfect way to end a busy week. If you’re here during Second Weekend, enjoy LoDa Artwalk, our monthly celebration dedication to all things artsy and creative.

Day Two: Dive In

8 AM | Bon Appetit!
Decisions, Decisions. The most important meal of the day only deserves the best. Luckily, you’re in Mobile, so you can’t go wrong with any choice you make!

10 AM | Learn All About the Gulf Coast’s History
Throughout history, many important ships and people have sailed the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. At the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, you can learn about the Gulf's legacy and how it shaped the world that has surrounded us for centuries. This museum has over 80 immersive and interactive exhibits that share bits about Mobile and our region's history.

12:30 PM | What’s Next?
If you’re still full from breakfast, use this as an opportunity to explore other aspects of Mobile’s culture. The Mobile Carnival Museum, Colonial Fort Conde, the History Museum of Mobile, and the Conde-Charlotte House Museum are nearby. Explore local art with our Mobile Mural Trail or shop ‘til you drop at some of our locally owned and operated stores

If lunch is calling your name, check out some of our delicious downtown dining options.

3 PM | Set Sail
View the exterior of the retired ocean liner, SS United States, aboard the Perdido Queen during a guided port tour. Not only will you have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the liner before it becomes an artificial reef, but you will also have the opportunity to see other ships currently docked in the Mobile River.

5 PM | Wear Your Stretchy Pants
We hope you’re hungry! Enjoy a night filled with fun facts about Mobile’s vibrant history and mouthwatering menu items from a few of Mobile’s top restaurants during a Bienville Bites Food Tour.
