The Port of Mobile will welcome a new riverboat cruise ship as part of American Cruise Lines’ Symphony’s inaugural Gulf Coast Cruise. In April 2025, local officials announced that Mobile was chosen as a Port of Call by American, as part of the company’s “most extraordinary year ever.”

The Gulf Coast itinerary is a one-way, eight-day cruise between New Orleans and Pensacola, with stops at port cities along the way. The inaugural voyage departed New Orleans on March 1 and will arrive in Mobile on March 6.

“This partnership with American Cruise Lines is especially rewarding and flattering to our city because the focus of the itinerary is the places you visit along the route,” said David Clark, President and CEO of Visit Mobile. “Because of that, American chooses Ports of Call, like Mobile, where the emphasis is on culture, history and the overall experience.”

American Symphony, one of the cruise line’s modern Mississippi riverboats, was built in 2022 and has the capacity for 180 guests. During their approximately 12 hours in port, cruisers are offered excursions to visit area attractions, restaurants, cultural centers and more, or may explore the city on their own.

The ship will return to Mobile three times in March and again in November and December to close the 2026 cruise season, with 2027 sailings available for booking.
