After more than a year of planning, Visit Mobile is celebrating the arrival of the annual Travel South USA Global Week conference to downtown Mobile. The week’s events began on Monday night with a “Stars of Alabama” welcome reception at the Exploreum Science Center, presented by the Alabama Department of Tourism.
Visit Mobile is hosting 55 international travel journalists from 19 countries, along with delegates from 12 southern states. Overall, the conference attendance is expected to include approximately 190 attendees.
Events include allowing conference guests to discover Mobile through carefully curated city tours, such as the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Africatown, Mobile’s cultural heritage, historical highlights and the city’s incredible cuisine scene.
In his address during a welcome breakfast on Tuesday, David Clark, President and CEO of Visit Mobile, highlighted the City of Mobile’s booming developments, infrastructure and industry advancements, including:
🔘 Near completion of the Mobile International Airport and Regions Arena.
🔘 Airbus, Austal and the Port of Mobile’s growth.
🔘 Amtrak Mardi Gras Service is exceeding expectations.
🔘 The return of year-round cruising with a larger Carnival Cruise Line ship.
🔘 The future Son of a Son of a Sailor permanent exhibit at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf.
🔘 The success of the Africatown community and the development of the Mobile County Civil Rights and Cultural Heritage Trail.
Additionally, the Visit Mobile team and other tourism leaders will network and collaborate with these travel writers to create high-impact storytelling that immerses global media in authentic travel experiences from across the South.
The conference will conclude on Wednesday, with a Mardi Gras-themed closing celebration, hosted by Visit Mobile.
