Watch the sparks fly as five area artists compete in a battle of creativity, each producing a new work of art as an audience looks on in the third edition of Mobile Arts Council's ART Works: The Throwdown. Artists will each be given a box of mystery items to be incorporated into their works, access to a common supply area, and 90 minutes to complete their pieces, which will be sold in a live auction.
After that, it's real simple. The artist whose piece is sold for the largest amount will be named Throwdown Champion.
The two-time Throwdown Champ Jim Hayward returns in hopes of a three-peat against challengers Chris Cumbie, Rando Dixon, Ameri’ca Jones, and Shelley Smith.
In addition to the competition, the evening features a silent auction of items donated by area artists and organizations, ranging from paintings, photographs, sculpture, and fiber art to tickets for performances and gift baskets. You can see some of them on our ART Works: The Throwdown Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ARTWorksThrowdown?fref=ts.
While watching the competition and bidding, partygoers can enjoy the music of D.J. Hunter Clark, food provided by Heroes and The Royal Scam, plenty of beer, wine and, of course, MAC's signature cocktail: "The Red Rooster.”
Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased at Mobile Arts Council (318 Dauphin St.) or one of these outlets: Iberia Bank, Ashland Gallery, B&B Pet Stop, Hemline, and (in Fairhope) Page and Palette or by phone (251-432-9796)
