Multi-media professional whose unique and diverse background in professional communications consists of more than a decade of daily news reporting and experience as a community college journalism instructor and student publications adviser.
Experience includes the past five years as the City Hall beat reporter at the Peoria Journal Star. Responsibilities require the ability to juggle multiple assignments on a daily basis under deadline pressures to include, but not limited to developing enterprise, long-form and spot news stories; a weekly column; online writing; political blog; Twitter updates; and video production. Additional work as a swing editor requires assigning daily tasks to a staff of approximately a dozen employees, identifying news and photography possibilities and reviewing work for proper style and accuracy.
Teaching experience involved approximately four years as an adjunct journalism instructor at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. Guided student development teaching beginning journalists how to interview, report, write and organize a story for publication within a multi-media operation. In addition, assisted in revitalizing a a student publication into an award winning enterprise that included a recognition in March 2012 as a runner-up in the overall excellence category during the Illinois Community College Journalism Association’s conference.
