Guncles Gluten Free has earned the #2 spot in USA TODAY's list of the 10 Best Gluten-Free Bakeries in 2024, chosen by an expert panel and voted on by readers. This is the second year in a row for the bakery to top the list, after topping the list in 2023. The Mobile, AL staple is listed at #2 as the best in the country for cooking up flourless desserts and baked goods that are just as indulgent as their traditional counterparts.
Guncles is a locally-owned, highly adored bakery whose inception came from “a cupcake that did not lead to happiness.” John Edward McGee and Demetrius James, owners and bakers, are proud to say the shop is visited almost daily by customers who drive from cities outside Mobile for their creations. Known for making customers triple-check the ingredients to be certain they are gluten-free (they are!), many local restaurants, wine stores and hotels offer their goods to customers.
