In a few weeks, downtown Mobile will be flooded with people eager to welcome the new year under an electric, 600 lb MoonPie and fireworks. A brand new year is almost here and if you’re ready to commit to a #SoMobile list of New Year’s resolutions, look no further!
Visit Mobile
You don’t know what you’re missing out on until you experience it! We firmly believe that this should be number one on everyone’s list of goals for the new year. The Port City has something to appease all curiosities and preferences. Whether you’re a foodie, art enthusiast, history buff or someone just eager to dig into our city’s culture, there are countless opportunities for you to dive headfirst into. Check out our itineraries page and “Mobile is Rated E for Everyone” blog to get started on your trip to Mobile.
Healthy eating habits
Clean and healthy eating will always be on trend. When visiting Mobile, there are plenty of options to help you stick to your healthy goals and dietary needs or preferences. The Noble South, Roosters, Mediterranean Sandwich Co. and NoJa are just some of the many choices that you can explore while in the Port City.
Get out of your comfort zone
Loosen up a little! Life is too short not to live on the edge sometimes. Next year, challenge yourself to try something different while in Mobile. Whether it’s embarking on a ghost tour with Bay City Convention & Tours, riding through the Mobile Tensaw River Delta aboard the Airboat Express or petting one of our scaly friends at Alligator Alley, you’re bound to have some fun. We double-dog dare you!
Make time for family
Some of the best memories are made with family. Mobile has family-friendly fun and engaging activities for all ages and interests. Explore the history of the Gulf Coast on a cargo ship replica at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico or take a family photo next to the larger-than-life rubber duck at the Mobile Museum of Art. Visiting the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, the USS ALABAMA and the Alabama Aquarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab are all must-do experiences for families.
Stick to a budget
Travel doesn’t always have to break the bank. Mobile has plenty of opportunities and experiences that will make a visit cost-effective and fun at the same time. Catch live music performances over a meal at Callaghan’s Irish Social Club or experience all of the artsy magic that takes over downtown during ArtWalk. Various bars and restaurants in the area offer various happy hour specials on appetizers and drinks.
Psst! Our event calendar is packed with events that are free and inexpensive to attend.
Explore a new city solo
Exploring a new city on your own and creating your own itinerary can be daunting. Luckily, we already built one for you! Discover (or rediscover!) the Port City at your own pace and without the hassle of coordinating with others. We have countless transportation methods, nightlife options and attractions that are open to solo enjoyment.
Practice self-care
Self-care should be part of everyone’s resolutions for the upcoming year! Recharge by playing 18 holes at one of the 25 golf courses in Mobile or splurge on a spa treatment at the Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa. Retail therapy is also deserved. Urban Emporium and Do Goods Mercantile Co are amazing stores to shop ‘til you drop in.
Walk more often
Lace-up those walking shoes and hit one of Mobile’s many trails and parks. The Glenn Sebastian Walking Trail, Langan Park and Medal of Honor Park are all ideal places to get your steps in. For a more creative addition to your trek, walk around town and explore Mobile’s art scene using our mural trail.
Detach from your phone
Disconnecting from the outside world is essential from time to time. In Mobile, there are plenty of opportunities to set your phone to “do not disturb” and find yourself. Mobile Botanical Gardens, Bellingrath Gardens & Home and the Mobile Japanese Gardens are the perfect excuses for becoming one with nature. The Haunted Bookshop is another way to escape reality. Just pick a book, slip into a corner and get your read on.
See? New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be hard. Just pick one (or some) of the tips we mentioned above and begin planning your next vacation to Mobile today.
