Visit Mobile is excited to share Amtrak’s announcement of details regarding the restoration of passenger rail service between Mobile and New Orleans.

Today, Amtrak officials announced the new state-sponsored Amtrak Mardi Gras Service will offer convenient morning and evening departures from both cities.

“The twice-daily service will provide substantial options for easy and experiential travel for visitors and citizens while creating a new avenue of economic impact for the City of Mobile and Gulf Coast communities,” said David Clark, President and CEO of Visit Mobile. Clark also serves as an Alabama Commissioner for the Southern Rail Commission (SRC).

Clark also recognized the partnership of Mayor Sandy Stimpson and his staff, Mobile City Council, Alabama State Port Authority, the State of Alabama, SRC and Amtrak for seeing through the vision for the return of service.

Additionally, the rail service provider confirmed the cities of Bay Saint Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula will also have same-day connections in both directions daily. Amtrak Mardi Gras Service guests can also make next-day connections in New Orleans to destinations across the U.S.

Visit Mobile anticipates Amtrak will confirm further details in the coming weeks.
